Fertilizer Canada and the government of Saskatchewan had signed… a 4R Nutrient Stewardship Memorandum of Understanding… to implement the 4 R’s in the province. We’re here today in lovely Prince Albert, Saskatchewan… at the Conservation Learning Centre’s field day. The CLC is one of eight sites in Saskatchewan that are supported… by the government of Saskatchewan. Collectively, they are known as the AgriARM Network… and they run a number of research trials that are overseen… by producers. Through the research branch at the Ministry of Agriculture,… we’ve been supporting all of the AgriARM sites in the province… with their 4R initiatives. It’s really great because at times we collaborate and we’ll do the same project. You know, something that works in northern Saskatchewan is not going to… work in southern Saskatchewan. It’s great because we have that more localized results for the producers in the area,… but then we can also pull all of the results together… and see the bigger picture. 4R Nutrient Stewardship is science-backed, best management practices… in crop nutrition. 4R stands for: the Right Source of fertilizer, applied at the Right Rate… at the Right Time of year, and at the Right Place in the soil. Really what the 4R program is about is simply using fertilizers… to their best impact. To their best impact for best crop growth, the best end result for farmers,… but also keeping in mind that farming does occur within society… and the environment, so that we’re protecting both. For us, we felt it was important to work with the government… and through this AgriARM program to advance 4R Nutrient Stewardship… here in the province. Growers can use the 4 R’s as the standard for sustainable nutrient… management or sustainable fertilizer application on their farm. Consumers want to know more. So, 4R Nutrient Stewardship is a way to verifty what’s happening on farm… and that farmers are doing good work on farm with crop nutrition strategies. That’s a good thing for return on fertilizer investment… and it’s good for farm profitability.
