The purpose of PVC primer is to soften the
pipe and begin the melting process before you solvent weld the pipe and the fitting
together, but there is a secondary use for PVC primer. When it’s cold outside or you’ve
had chilled water running through the pipe, the pipe becomes brittle and it’s very difficult
to cut without it cracking. One little trick that not a lot of people know about is that
you can apply primer around the pipe where you’re about to cut it, and you could also
apply a little bit of primer to the blade, and now because you’ve started to soften the
pipe, it’s much easier to cut through the pipe. For all your irrigation and landscape needs,
